.International award winning British cellist (b.1988) Jacob Shaw gives acclaimed concerts across 5 continents in venues including Carnegie Hall, Salle Gaveau, Berlin Konzerthaus, Royal Albert Hall, Vienna Musikverein, Seoul Arts Center, Oslo Concert House, Walt Disney Concert Hall… His 2015 2CD album DEBUT won rave reviews internationally – Remy Franck, director of the International Classical Music Awards wrote the following – No doubt: Jacob Shaw is one of the most charismatic and distinctive performers I have heard.
Jacob Shaw is Professor of Cello in Barcelona, Spain at the Academia Marshall (Marshall-Granados Academy of Music, established in 1901), where he occupies the “Cassado Chair.” Both Gaspar Cassado and Pablo Casals led frequent classes at this institution. He renovated an old Danish farm from 1800 which he now runs as an artist residence, near to the UNESCO heritage site of Stevns Klint.
With a vast repertoire and fresh approach to classical concerts, Jacob often tours his “Radical Classic,” project as an alternative movement to build a diverse and new generation of classical music lovers. Through “Radical Classic”, he has instigated numerous different projects combining classical music with other mediums such as food, drink, dance, art, and more… In 2018 he launched Britten Re:Imagined, with Ask La Cour Rasmussen (solo dancer from the New York City Ballet), choreographing together the 3rd Solo Suite by Benjamin Britten for solo dancer and cello.
His passion for collaborating with different cultures and musical genres has led to projects with indie, jazz, folk, traditional and electronic musicians. Jacob often instigates community outreach projects and education into work. Last year, this included performances in two prisons, an orphanage, a hospital and a refugee center.
